Many people dream of frame and fortune.  They imagine their name in lights or becoming a millionaire.  Amy Scarborough had a dream, but this dream was much greater than that.  Amy dreamed that one day she would be featured on Hayesvision.com.  Today Amy, I am happy to announce that we are making that dream come true.  We love you Amy!

Hopefully most of you know that I have been working for the past year on the website ConsumeU.com.  ConsumeU allows users to rate TV, movies, books, music and television.  Based on your preferences The Professor will provide you with recommendations on items from these categories.  The site is also a really great place to connect with people you know to find out what you have in common.

If you have not signed up for ConsumeU, check it out, it is a lot of fun.  Also make sure to like ConsumeU on facebook which you can do by clicking the like box in the sidebar to the right.  Any support you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Getting his hair cut, we were talking about Epcot, and the hairdresser asked him what he liked at Epcot. He listed a few things, and then informed her, “And they also have the Magic Kingdom, where you can find the People Mover. But I like to call it the Pooper Mover.”

At McDonald’s, chatting up our next-door-table-mate: “What’s your name?”
“Mike.”
“Are you having a Happy Meal?”
“Well, sorta… it’s like a big Happy Meal.”
*laughter* “A BIG HAPPY MEAL?!??! HAHAHA, you’re funny!”
I interject: “Okay, Hunter, let’s let him eat… he might not want to chat the whole time he’s eating.”
Hunter: “But Grandma always talks the WHOLE time I’m eating lunch!”

Those of you wondering where I have been for the last five months, I have been locked away working on a website idea that I am very excited to be launching this spring.  The website is called ConsumeU.com and the basic premise is providing user recommendations on items such as movies, TV shows, books, websites and more.  Users of the website will provide ratings on items from the categories previously described and based on their ratings, the site will provided recommendations generated from preferences of like minded individuals.  In addition to great recommendations, users will also be able to connect with the friends and family and share in the experience.  This is where the site gets really fun because in addition to being able to ask your friends and family about items that interest you, you will also have a CU Score with all website users.  The CU Score is a score from 0-100 helping identify who you have the most and least in common with based on all of your responses.  Ever wonder how similar your preferences are with your friends, parents or children?  You will be able to find out all of that here.

The ConsumeU website is themed around University/Education and has a cool professor that will help you out along the way. The more items you vote on, the more credits you receive and grade levels you complete.  There are a number of fun features like the ability to share items via Facebook, invite friends and family, plan an activity section, fun Professor’s Blog and more.  It is an entertaining website for all users and age levels.

Okay, those of you who live near me (Patrick, Mom) know I will not shut up about this website. I heard about PaperBack Swap in a magazine and decided to check it out. Well, it’s genius. Instead of figuring out how to sell my books for pennies on ebay, I now go on this website, punch in the ISBN on the back of my unwanted book, click to post my book, and I’m done. Then I wait for another member to request my book, at which point I use their online postage printer (for a small fee) and print the label right from my computer. Stick it in an envelope, tape the label, and mail the book from my house. Every time you use their system to mail a book, you get an instant credit to get another book from another member. You don’t even have to trade with the same person! You just get a little bank of credits and you can shop the website for whatever you want.

If you want a book that no one has posted, you can add this book to your wish list (and we all know how I heart a wish list) and when it comes available, you get an email asking if you still want it and if you have the credits for it. It will tell you how far down you are on the wish list (right now, I am wishing for some books after 100 other people, but hey… you never know). Once you’re done with the book you receive, it’s yours to keep OR you can just relist it on the site. It’s great for those books you want to read but don’t care to keep, and if you’re like me and want the convenience of the library from the comfort of home. And also… there’s no time limit, unlike the library.  I am obsessed.  I scoured our shelves today just to find more books to post.  It’s addicting!  Oh, and then I went through my Amazon list and found all the books I wanted but didn’t really care if I had new-new.  I looked up all those books and managed to find like six of them available on PaperBack Swap (that’s PBS for those in the know).  Now I don’t have to “waste” my gifts on these books!

I believe you get two free credits for the first 10 books you post, so you can start requesting right away.  Obviously older books don’t get requested as quickly, but there’s no harm in posting them.  Someone requested a 10 year old Norwegian travel guide from me just last week.  Go figure.
