Day Three – Thursday, October 28, 2004 (Mendocino)

Another beautiful cool morning!  We woke up early to partake in the unbelievable breakfast that they served at the Inn.  Being the avid outdoors people that we are we decided to go for a hike at the Russian Gulch State Park.  There was a 3 mile hike to the beautiful falls area where we took many pictures.  When we arrived at the falls we were looking around for the tram that took us back to our car.  After great search we realized that they wanted us to hike back as well?

We returned to our car and started the drive to Fort Bragg which was a city about 10 miles north of Mendocino.  On our way we decided to take the ocean drive which took us past Point Cabrillo Lighthouse.  We decided to take the half mile walk to the shore where the lighthouse stood.  Again far too many pictures were taken but we had a great time.  We then continued our trip to Fort Bragg ending up having lunch at the North Coast Brewing Company.  After pumping our body with some wonderful grease we went to find out about taking a tour of the brewery.  Sadly disappointed we found out the next tour was Saturday when we would be departing.  Continuing our trip through Fort Bragg we went shopping at some small stores along the main street.

The quest of the day was to find a digital camera card reader for Emily’s camera, which in our rush to leave we left at home.  Finding this particular item was like finding a quarter in the ocean.  Thinking the camera store was the place to go we entered Fiddles and Cameras, which was like setting the flux capacitor to 1970!  I asked the attendant for a card reader for an xd card at which point he threw the three card readers on the counter and said do any of these look like the one you need.  They were not.  We were then sent to a computer store down the street where we were met at the front door by a large dog.  We went through the two rows of computer supplies at which point Cheech (from Cheech and Chong) told us of another computer store (by Rite Aid) and said “good luck man!”.  After checking this computer store to no avail, we stopped at Rite Aid as a last effort.  I went to the camera department and asked if they had any card readers.  The lady said credit card readers, (at which point I wanted to say “yes I thought I need a credit card reader and I thought the first place I should check is Rite Aid”) but holding my tongue I said digital camera card reader.  She chuckled and said “no, no we don’t have any of those”.  Silly me for asking, I think at this point we will wait till we get back to civilization to look for this item again.

We returned to the Inn for wine hour and went to the room to take a nap before dinner.  Next thing I know the sun is coming up?  That makes the third straight night of 12 hour sleep.  Bliss!
