Honeymoon Journal

Day One – Tuesday, October 26, 2004 (Departure from Orlando)

We left Orlando at 7:50 a.m. which, after the incredible weekend that we had, was mighty early! Our connecting flight was through Salt Lake City, and we ended up in Sacramento at 12:30 local time. We rented our car and drove for 4 hours to Mendocino where we started our vacation. Let me also say that the 4 hour drive was anything but straight! We had just enough time to stop for an elegant lunch at Jack in the Box!

When we arrived at the Brewery Gulch Inn we were just in time for their nightly wine hour. After having a glass of wine we were ready for dinner. We decided on MacCallum House where we had oysters and other quaint dishes. We also had this awesome Pumpkin Cheesecake Soufflé. After our dessert we could barely hold our heads off the table so we headed back to the Inn and called it a day!

Day Two – Wednesday, October 27, 2004 (Mendocino)

After 11 hours of sleep we were finally ready to start our day! The weather was in the 50’s, which was a great change of pace from the Florida summer heat! We started the day by taking a walk through the downtown Mendocino area. We then took a walking trail that took us along the coastal waterfront. The pictures that we took did not do justice to how beautiful it was. After a little shopping we ended up eating lunch at the Bay View Café. Emily had the crabmeat sandwich and I had the steak sandwich. Both were delicious. We then returned to the room for hot stone massages which all but put us to sleep.

After the massages we attended the nightly wine hour and were off to dinner. We ate dinner at the Mendocino Café; meal was average at best. Guess that is what you get for getting burritos in Mendocino! We are still in search of the signature dish of northern California. Maybe we found it yesterday at Jack in the Box. Leaving the restaurant we got to see the beginnings of the lunar eclipse. Doesn’t happen too often, so that was pretty cool. Greeted again by our deer friends when we returned to the inn, maybe they were waiting for our leftovers!
